The fourth little traveller is learning "A few of my favourite things" in music class. He walks around the house singing in a posh staccato English accent.
When the dog bites!
When the bee stings!
When I'm feeling saaaahhhhhd.
I simply remember my favourite things
And then I don't feeeeeel so baaaaahd"
He is making my heart melt. So so cute.
I have a few new favourite things. I thought I might share them incase you're looking for a few new faves to brighten the day.
Number one is my new bowl. This one's just for those of you in Qatar. I found it at the souq and I love it. It's from Syria and made from olive tree wood. I'm sure I paid way too much for it, but I couldn't be bothered bartering and neither could the guy selling it. He wasn't budging on the price. Remember those wooden bowls from the 70's? The one's that your Mum put a bandaid on the bottom of and wrote your name on it so it came home from the bbq? Or was that just my Mum?
I keep dried figs in the bowl. I was paying a fortune for the figs at a certain gourmet franchise in town, until I discovered them at the souq for 17 riyal for a kilo (about $5). These things are amazing with piece of gooey cheese. AMAZING.
Last year I wrote about my lost eyebrow arch, the arch that I found after a trip to the Benefit Brow Bar in London. This year I've discovered the Benefit High Brow. If you're like me and struggle to get a decent arch in your brow, this thing is just the ducks nuts. You can pick one up at Sephora.
Here's a tutorial. She's so excited. I think she likes it even more than I do?! I should show her my packing tutorial. I bet she'd wear her undies over the top of her pants to the airport in a crises.
And finally, these, I want either one of these. Mainly because I love a v neck, and I love a t-shirt that's not sticking to my curves or showing off the batwings. You can find these at Zara.
And for those of you who are wondering why you've landed on the shopping network. I promise normal blog posting will resume tomorrow.
xx

Just like Oprah ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh yes! It is too!!! I completely forgot about Oprah's favourite things (LOVED those episodes). What this post could have alternatively been called "I went for coffee this morning with my girlfriends and spent way too much time talking rather than working and consequently had 30 minutes to write a blog post as it was a half day at school" :-)
DeleteOh, isn't it wonderful when children sing? I have a friend whose son is severely autistic - he has no language unless he is singing. She has a video of him washing up and singing 'Oh my darling, oh my darling, oh my darling Clementine' - they are the only words he has ever 'spoken' and it still makes us cry to watch him.
ReplyDeleteHeart just melted a little bit. Music is amazing isn't it.
DeleteI LOVE "favourite things" posts. Especially when they double as shopping posts :). And we had a set of 6 of those wooden bowls. Although am pretty sure ours didn't come from a souq in Qatar...
ReplyDeleteIt's highly possible that I may have "borrowed" one of my mothers wooden bowls with the bandaid when I left home, just for a little bit of comfort. If I didn't think I would cause some sort of Australian customs catastrophe by sending wood into the country I'd send you one of these Syrian bowls, they're bloody gorgeous.
DeleteWe have one of my grandma's wooden bowls on our bench these days! From the 70's and a gorgeous souvenir from Dorrigo in northern NSW. We also bought a small one in Buckinghamshire a few years ago, another souvenir from my husband's home county. Yours is a stunner too! Now I want to go to the Benefits Brow Bar too!
