This Saturday I'm grateful for............Growing Older

Back in to the Spirit of Maxabella's gratefulness...........

After a week of the most relaxing school holidays I've ever had, I'm very grateful that the little travelers are no longer babies or toddlers. Don't get me wrong, I loved the baby smells, their first steps and those cute mispronounced words, it's always fun to look back at the video footage and giggle at what looks like badly managed crowd control. As much as I loved it though, I haven't forgotten the days that were spent in a robotic sleep deprived fog.

There are some beautiful things that come with age, for all of us.

This week we've slept in, yes, SLEPT IN! We went to the pool and no one did a poo in either the pool or their bathers? Score! After years of arriving loaded up like donkeys about to trek the Himalayas, we arrived with towels slung over our shoulders and a tube of sunscreen. I was tanned, skinny and wearing a black string bikini.......okay, so maybe the last bit wasn't true.

A simple trip to the movies this week was just that, a simple trip.  We ordered lunch and there wasn't a mashed banana or a babyccino in sight. I kept my boobs in my bra throughout the entire lunch, although the same can't be said for dinner, it may have been the wine.

We've gone from hoping no one steps on the baby while the photo gets taken

To the four of them lining themselves up and asking if I'll record them saying Hello. Here's the Little Travelers 1 through 4. Enjoy your weekend, no matter what your stage.

  5. Was just thinking this same thing myself. My youngest has just turned two but I am certainly seeing the benefits! Just counting down until they're all at school now. LOL

  8. Your munchkins are adorable! Oh, and I can't wait until my one year old is older. It's getting better/easier slowly. But I love that I'm taking less than the kitchen sink these days. And totally hearing you about all that travel with kids.

Oh, how I understand about the poo in the pool. Well, on Tuesday we go to the pools and for the first time we had a Code Brown. Totally my one year old's fault. SO embarrassing. xx

  9. Have just spent ages reading your blog, am loving it all, and am astounded at how you do this whole travelling life with FOUR!!! We struggled with 2 kids and 4 suitcases :) We are pretty much still in that baby stage though - boobies, poo explosions, sleep deprivation. I forget that there is an end to it sometimes, so I appreciate this post!
Look forward to reading more of your adventures. Thanks!

  10. So lovely to see and hear your gorgeous kids! Also makes me realise how different life is going to be in a few years' time - I'm loving having two children now and I'm sure I'm going to love it even more then.

  11. It's no secret that I am growing the Badoo to the age of three when everything seems to get easier with children. I can't wait!

For a minute I thought your post was about us getting older and I thought "Where are you taking this, Shamozal?"... ! Happy weekend. x

  12. I'm hearing you. I love that I don't have to wrestle people in and out of carseats anymore, or fiddle with seatbelts. They can put their own shoes on! dress themselves! and even get themselves drinks of water when they're thirsty.
Who knew life could be so cruisy?

  13. My 'kids' ages range from 22 to 32 and I still remember the agony of sleep deprivation...I reckon I missed out on at least 10 years worth of it, so I know how you feel. I can remember the relief too, when mr t turned 1 and I finally felt we were moving on as well. Congratulations for making it this far!

  15. I may only have the one kid but do indeed remember how relieved I felt when I realised that I no longer had to leave the house with a pram, nappy bag, little containers of food, a selection of toys, hand wipes, playpen etc.

Sapphire and I went to an open day for the Seeing Eye Dog Centre and saw a parent grab their toddler, stretch the back of their pants open for a 'poo check' before setting them back on the ground again to toddle off. Sapphire laughed at the indignity of it all until I reminded her that she was checked in the same way many, many times!
